When Robin Schmetzer was diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia type 2, his doctors told him that there was nothing they could do for him. Robin’s mother did not want to accept this and began to search the Internet for alternative therapies. After extensive online research, she found Beike Biotechnology. Robin’s ataxia had progressed so far that he was barely able to eat or walk on his own. He felt abandoned by the doctors.
After his arrival in Thailand and the preliminary examinations, the intensive therapy began. “The therapy was quite exhausting for me,” says Robin in a television report about the treatment in Bangkok. “We spent up to 14 hours a day in the clinic doing physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and aquatherapy. Then I had magnetic field therapy and oxygen therapy […]. And then twice a week I had stem cell therapy.” The efforts were worth it.

His mother was particularly satisfied with the results. “We are overjoyed about Robin’s current condition and are totally convinced that we have gone the right way. Robin can even drive again without problems and do his apprenticeship as an industrial mechanic. Also he can cut his food without help with a knife and fork,” she writes in an email. The treatment of the symptoms of ataxia requires regular repetitions of the therapy. Above all, the financial burden is a problem for the family. In order to raise money for the treatment, the artist Dani Suara, a friend of the family, took the initiative and set up a benefit concert with numerous acts. On October 27th, the concert, which had grown into a full-day event with a children’s and evening program, took place thanks to the support of numerous helpers.
